Dog Breeds of Interest
There are many dog breeds out there, and many wonderful sites explaining each breed. The purpose of this site is to show my favorite dog breeds, and the breeds I’ve considered to use as a service dog. I may add more when I start thinking about the right dog breed for me. Right now, I really fancy the Portuguese Water Dog. To learn a bit more detailed information about the dogs listed below, please click on their breed name, or on the link to the right. I have a 5 ear old grandson diagnosed with Aspergers. So far it’s socilizeation and some large motor skills (jumping & running.
Could you please let me know about a good breed of dog for him?
There is a dog in the home now, he’s very friendly and getting older (9 yrs) he loves when I bring my dogs for a visit.
This dog won’t stay with my grandson at night and my grandson wants him there. The Parents put dog in his room for awhile and let him out when child is sound asleep.
Thank you for any suggestions

To be very honest, I don’t know what breed of dog would best suit your grandson. I personally grew up with a golden retriever, and later a miniature poodle as well as a cat, some gold fish and a gerbil. And when I was older my family inherited a few parrots. I went through an agency, K9 Helpers, which did a lot of that research for me. From my understanding it’s not just the breed of dog, but also the personality and character traits of the dog itself. Not every dog is suited for service work. And a big part of having a good service dog is about socializing the dog appropriately when it’s a puppy, and getting the proper training. I would advise you to look into some online forums about what might be suited best – but because I do not know your grandson or the dog in question I cannot give you a direct answer to your question. I am sorry about that. You might want to even start googling dog breeds suited for asperger children. That might help you get in the right direction.
